Image created based on Christopher Wallis’ interpretation of Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra verse 32. Wallis explains in his unpublished 2018 translation of the text how the five sense-capacities, the buddhīndriyas and their corresponding sense objects (the five tanmātras) are nested one inside the other like the concentric rings of a peacock feather. Moving from the periphery to the core, the sense fields merge into the cobalt blue void of the Absolute. The colors of the five elements are here based on their designation in Swami Satyasangananda’s Tattwa Shuddhi (Munger: Bihar School of Yoga, 1984).
