Gold plated bronze
9 x 8 x 4 cm

A sculptural wall-piece of the Kīrtimukha, a form that is pervasive throughout traditional Asian art and architecture. It can be seen on the lintels of temple gates, the corners of temple pillars, atop temple towers, and above the icons of deities. To enter a temple, one must inevitably face the open mouth of the Kīrtimukha. In this sense, the Kīrtimukha functions like a guardian at the threshold of inner wisdom, presiding over the eternal cycle of creation and destruction.
